1Who we are
Kintail (“Kintail”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is a dog-tracking app and website — a warm, private journal for your pup. Kintail is operated under the registered business name Kintail App. The app and the website at kintail.app are together the “Service”. We are the entity responsible for your personal information under this policy.
2What this policy covers
This policy covers personal information we handle when you use the Kintail app or website. It sits alongside our Terms of Service. It does not cover the separate practices of the app stores, sign-in providers, or other companies whose services you reach through Kintail — their own privacy policies apply to what they do.
3Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details — your email address, and (if you use Google or Apple sign-in) the basic profile information those services return, such as your name. You can also set a display name.
- Your pup's history (“Your Content”) — pet profiles (name, breed, sex, date of birth, avatar), daily entries and notes, mood and obedience ratings, health details you choose to record (such as weight, diet, and heat/season notes), milestones, goals, care events, and any photos you attach.
- Sharing choices — the households and community groups you create or join, and what each pet shares in each group.
- Messages to us — anything you send when you contact support or report content.
- Issue reports — if you use “Report an issue”, the message you write, the category you pick, and (unless you switch it off before sending) the page you were on plus basic technical context: your platform, OS and app version, plan, app mode, theme, language, time zone, the last ten pages you visited in the app, and your pup’s breed, sex, age and latest weight. It never includes your pup’s name, your notes or your photos, and the app shows you the exact list before you send. A reply address is optional — leave it blank and the report is anonymous. For an anonymous report we store a one-way salted digest of your IP address — never the address itself, and it cannot be read back — so the channel can be rate-limited against abuse.
Information collected automatically
- Diagnostics — crash and error reports to help us fix problems. These are scrubbed to remove personal-information-shaped fields before they leave your device, and are processed by our diagnostics provider (see section 7).
- Device & app information — basic technical details such as app version, device type, and operating system, used to run and troubleshoot the Service.
- Notification token — if you enable reminders or notifications, a push token so we (via our push provider) can deliver them.
- Subscription status — whether you hold a Kintail+ or Family subscription, and related purchase records, handled through our billing provider and the app stores.
Kintail does not use third-party advertising networks and does not track you across other apps or websites for advertising.
Information from other people
If someone adds you to a household or you join a community group, you will see the pet content those members choose to share, and they will see what you choose to share. That shared content becomes part of the group for its members.
4How we use your information
- To provide the Service — store your pup's history and sync it across your devices and household.
- To enable the sharing you set up — households and community groups.
- To send reminders and notifications you've turned on.
- To provide optional AI features (see section 5).
- To process subscriptions and restore purchases.
- To keep the Service secure, diagnose and fix problems, and prevent abuse.
- To respond to your support and safety requests.
- To comply with our legal obligations and enforce our Terms.
We store your dog's history as plain, portable text (Markdown) that you can export at any time.
5AI features
Some optional features — such as daily tips and “ask the notebook” — send relevant parts of your pet's content to a third-party AI provider (Anthropic) to generate a response. This happens only when you use those features. The content is processed to produce your result and is not used to show you ads. As with all of Kintail, AI output is general information, not veterinary advice.
6Sharing with other people
Kintail lets you share your pup's progress with people you invite — your household, and community groups you join by link, code, or QR. What each pet shares is always your choice, per group. You can stop sharing, leave a group, block a member, or report content at any time. Beyond the sharing you set up yourself, we do not share Your Content with other users.
7Our service providers
We use a small number of trusted companies to run the Service. They may process your information only on our instructions and only to provide their service to us:
| Provider | What they help with |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Cloud database, authentication, and storage that syncs your account and content. |
| Apple & Google | Optional Sign in with Apple / Google, app distribution, and in-app purchases. |
| RevenueCat | Managing subscriptions and purchase status. |
| Anthropic | Generating AI tips and answers when you use those features (see section 5). |
| Resend | Sending account and service emails. |
| Sentry | Crash and error diagnostics (scrubbed of personal-information-shaped fields). |
| Expo | App delivery, updates, and push notifications. |
We may also disclose information if required by law, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of our users or the public. If Kintail is ever involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that deal, and we will let you know.
8We don't sell your data
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own advertising or marketing.
9Where your data is stored
Your information is stored and processed by us and the providers listed above. Some of these providers operate in countries outside Australia, so your information may be stored or processed overseas. Where that happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is handled consistently with this policy and applicable privacy law.
10How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. When you delete your account, we delete your cloud content, though limited records may be retained where required by law or for legitimate business needs (such as billing records and abuse prevention). Backups and diagnostic logs age out on a rolling basis. Because your data is plain, portable text, you can export a full copy before you delete your account.
11Your choices & rights
- Access & export — export your full history from within the app at any time.
- Correct — edit your pet content and account details directly in the app.
- Delete — delete your account from the app's settings, which removes your cloud content.
- Control sharing — leave households or groups, block members, and report content.
- Notifications & permissions — turn reminders off, and change photo, notification, or calendar permissions in your device settings at any time.
You also have rights under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, including to ask us to access or correct the personal information we hold about you. To make a request, contact us (section 16). If you are in a region with additional privacy rights, we will honour those rights where they apply.
12Children
Kintail is intended for people aged 16 and over and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
13How we protect your data
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information: data is encrypted in transit, access to accounts and shared content is controlled by per-account security rules, and diagnostics are scrubbed of personal-information-shaped fields. No online service can be perfectly secure, so keep your sign-in details safe and keep your own exported copies of anything important.
14Device permissions
Kintail asks for a permission only when a feature needs it, and you can decline or revoke each one in your device settings:
- Photos / media — so you can attach pictures to a day's entry, and (if you choose) save a copy to your gallery.
- Notifications — so you can receive the reminders you set.
- Calendar — so Kintail can add care events (like vet visits) to your calendar when you ask it to.
15Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time — for example, as the Service or the law changes. If a change is material, we will give you reasonable notice, such as an in-app notice or by updating the date above. Continuing to use the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.
16Contact & complaints
Questions, or a request to access, correct, or delete your information? Email us at support@kintail.app and we'll help. If you have a privacy concern we haven't resolved, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
